1. How does the household hazardous waste program work?

The City Landfill does not accept household hazardous waste (HHW). HHW includes items such as:

• Antifreeze
• Brake fluid
• Car batteries
• Cleaners
• Gasoline
• Liquid paints
• Motor oil and filters
• Pesticides
• Poisons
• Solvents
• Transmission fluid
• Weed killer, etc.

These items should not be included in your weekly garbage collection. The City of High Point tries to hold quarterly HHW Events in High Point where residents may drop off these items along with other e-wastes. The dates for 2020-2021 are Aug. 29, 2020 | Nov. 7, 2020 | Feb. 6, 2021 | May 1, 2021.  Please call 336-883-3111 for more information.

2. How do I properly dispose of my household hazardous wastes?

For items like pesticides, insecticides, cleaning fluids, paints, and batteries, the City of High Point operates quarterly Household Hazardous Waste Disposal events. They are on Nov. 7, 2020, Feb. 6, 2021, May 1, 2021. Guilford County residents may also take these to EcoFlo at 2750 Patterson Street, Greensboro. Hours are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. You may call 800-999-6510 for more information.

3. How do I dispose of an automobile battery?

Advance Auto Parts or other auto parts stores may buy old batteries. Please call 336-883-3111 for more information.

4. How do I properly dispose of my electronics?

Residents are encouraged to recycle e-waste (computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, TVs, etc.), which may be taken to the Material Recovery Facility for free. Please do not place these items at the curb or in your recycling cart as they can be damaged during the normal course of operations/dumping.
