Archeological Work Completed at Oakwood Cemetery
Join Us for a Remote Public Meeting to Learn More
In 2019, the City of High Point was awarded a grant from the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office for an archeological survey of the African American section of the Oakwood Cemetery. As a part of this study, ground penetrating radar work was completed at the site in June of 2020.
The archeological consultant, New South Associates, has prepared a report documenting the ground penetrating radar survey, marker mapping and anomaly mapping at the site.
We invite you to learn about the report and its findings through an live, online presentation on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Members of the community are welcome to submit questions for City of High Point staff or the consultant team from New South Associates.
While the meeting will be held remotely due to the pandemic, we do want to encourage questions and active participation. For those wishing to participate in the meeting, please sign up at www.highpointnc.gov/VirtualPublicMeeting. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the live meeting.
